This is a great deal and a wonderful way to spend the day! We went from Tacoma to Portland in the fall. There is lots to do in Portland, and the train ride is very relaxing. I would recommend avoiding Mondays as many of the attractions (including OMSI) are closed on Mondays.

This is such a fun field trip (especially for little boys who love trains). We usually do this annually with a homeschool group in our area. We've gone from Olympia to Seattle (and visited the Seattle Aquarium which is fairly close to the train depot) and Olympia to Portland (where we visited Washington Park Zoo and the Portland Children's Museum). Scheduling this field trip can be a bit tricky and the one I scheduled ended up having some mechanical problem with the train, so left much later than we were supposed to, but overall, we enjoyed our train field trips.

We have done this trip many times over the years and everytime just love it. We've gone from Tacoma to Portland. Getting everyone up and going in the morning to catch the train on time is work but well worth it. There are so many choices of activities to do once you get there. The train ride on its own is well worth it. Great fun and the kids just love it.

We have done this trip many times from Tacoma WA to Portland OR.
Always fun and a great experience. The kids enjoy the ride on the train there and back. Hanging out with the family and other kids. The time you get to spend in the city. We have done different things each time. Have gone to OMSI which is fun on its own. We have just taken the time to walk around downtown and explore. Plenty to do all around for all ages. Prepare for a long exhausting day but a ton of fun.
