Our co-op set up a field trip with about 22 kids and adults, ranging from 6-14. Our tour guides split us in two groups, 1-3 graders, and older kids. Our tour guides were fabulous! I was on the tour with the younger students, and our tour guide knew how to talk to them. She told stories, made history come alive, and took questions fom children and adults. All the children were engaged, interested and happy. From the bells that were used to summon slaves or servants, to the ice house and the paintings on the walls, we learned a little bit about many things in a way that the kids remember. Visitors are free to wander in the gardens, and we had the space for a nice game of tag afterwards. During the summer a small restaurant operates on the grounds, and there is also room for picnics.
