| Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park |
| Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park sits tucked into the northern face of Binghamton's South Mountain. The zoo officially opened in 1875, and it is the fifth oldest zoological institution in the country behind such communities as Philadelphia, Chicago, Cincinnati, and Buffalo. |

Next door to the zoo is the Binghamton children's museum The Discovery Center, which makes a nice day trip to see both. |

 | | Nancy R, Co-op Member | | This is a struggling small zoo, my local zoo, and I recommend it for a fun day with younger children, when combined with a visit to the adjacent Discovery Center. Older children and parents may say "that's it?" Some new exhibits have revived the lower portion of the zoo, the depressing tiger and penguin enclosures in the upper zoo need work. Be warned that it is built on a hill-great if your kids need to burn off energy but not so great for grandparents with limited mobility. |

| | Valerie M, Co-op Member | If you are local then it's worth the visit, but the kids will have more fun at the discovery center nearby.
This zoo is on a hill and if you have problems with your knees it's a very painful climb up and down. It's a very very small zoo. My kids have trouble spotting the animals which try to hide or are at a distance, so we take pictures of the animals and show them.
It's nice to have a local zoo but we try to take the time and go to a bigger zoo on trips. A couple of hours at this zoo is plenty. |
