You can go as an official group or as a family. If you get a group together you will need to call ahead to book your date and get special pricing. Group and Private tours are offered during the week. If you go as a family, you can go during their hours of operation on the weekends. On the first Saturday of the month there is a public feeding at 3pm (if your kids are into that kind of thing-and the kids with me were!).
You will have tour guide the whole time. Every tour guide we've had is family friendly and willingly answers all the kids questions and listens to their stories. The tour time depends on how many questions the kids have. The guides generally adapt their tour to the ages of kids present. Our tours have lasted anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour usually. The tour includes specific information about the cat, diet, natural habitat, size, population in the wild, etc. You will see tigers, a panther, a leopard, a bobcat, and puma.
One of the things we love is that you get to see the big cats up close-they aren't far off in an exhibit where you may or may not see them.
We have been going every year for the last 6 years, so we've watched it grow and flourish. We like to go in early May in the morning before it gets too hot.
It's a little off the beaten path for us, so I combine it with a trip to the Louisburg Cider Mill or the Berry Patch on the same day.
At the time of this review, admission is $5.00 per person ages 4 and up; 3 and under are free. This is a wildcat refuge, so any additional donation is welcome.
