The Novus Homeschool Group took a morning tour of the Van Winkle Historical Trail at Hobbs. The park provided us with a park interpreter who was very informative. She explained about the Van Winkle mill, pointed out where the homestead foundation remains, where the blacksmith shop was, and showed us the brick out house and where the mill operated. The reason our group chose this trail is that it is accessible by strollers and wheelchairs. The trail is short, only 1/4 mile and it is packed earth for easy walking. The trail is wide enough for kids to walk in groups.

It is a great field trip for group with multi-age children. We were a group of 30 with kids ranging in ages from preschool through high school. Everyone enjoyed the information the guide had to offer. The kids were allowed to walk through the different areas. Kiosks are placed along the trail that give visitors more information.

I would recommend this field trip. There was no fee for our group to attend.
