Description:Experience Maine, the way life was! The museum exhibits 12,000-plus years of history, from the Paleo-Indians to the first European explorers. See the homes, shops and mills where Mainers have lived and worked for centuries. Explore the factories, ships and farms that are an integral part of the state’s rich history. Exhibits include natural history, archaeology and prehistoric life, historical origins of Maine's resource-based industries and agriculture, a celebration of Maine's workers, military struggle for the region, and gemstones. A free museum coloring book can be downloaded on the website.

Worst problem with this place is that your kid's will beg to go every day! Docents are kid friendly, homeschool friendly (home schoolers get in free!), and very passionate about what they're doing. Maine from the rocks up to modern times. Best field trip EVER!
