On April 19, 1775, the American Revolution began at Lexington and Concord with a clash of arms known to history as "the shot heard round the world." At Minute Man National Historical Park the opening battle of the Revolution is brought to life as visitors explore the battlefields and witness the American revolutionary spirit through the writings of the Concord authors.

The Minute Man National Historical Park is a collection of museums, trails, and historical sites along the Battle Road from Lexington to Concord. Your first stop should be the Visitor Center in Lexington to see "The Road to Revolution" - my kids loved it! From there it is a short walk to Hartwell Tavern where you can go on a short tour and see a musket firing demonstration. You can also take a tour of the road from Lexington to Concord - it is long but very informative! If you choose not to walk the five or so miles, you can drive to see the Paul Revere Capture site, then on to Concord for Old North Bridge. There are several ranger programs available here - we loved "What Really Happened at the North Bridge". You can also book programs as a "field trip" group but the cost is quite high - $150 for up to 60 participants.

My kids have returned over and over again to Minuteman National Park and enjoyed it in many different ways. We have walked along their trails, with historical markers well dispersed throughout, and discussed the events along the way. We have watched historical reenactments (although the noise has been tough on our ears occasionally) and enjoyed those. Our favorite experience is the multimedia show, however. We can see that frequently and still come out with new ideas, new questions, and new answers. Their docents are great. We would recommend this as a fun learning experience to people of all ages and backgrounds!

Check the hours as they are seasonal. I check frequently because we really miss it from the late fall to early spring!

We have never been there for Patriots Day but I heard it is great!
