Marina Zinn, Co-op Member We are in the area and it has become a great family tradition to have a visit to Pioneer Village during the Old Fashioned Christmas days (usually first weekend of December). There is a small entrance fee, and you might choose to buy a thrifted Christmas tree decoration. All other activities are free and your choice in what order you want to visit each house. Plenty to see and do, usually makes about 2 to 3 hour visit. There are activities set up by volunteers dressed up as pioneer settlers, including crafts, lottery, making cookies, trying homemade applesauce (you get to see women making it right there) train model station, writing a letter to Santa and mailing it, free picture with Santa (on your camera) and Christmas Carols, and cafeteria with cookies and cider. The houses have plenty of artifacts to spark curiosity even in a little child. Everything is styled for the time of pioneer settlers, our favorite was a room furnished as a bedroom with toys, cradles and clothes of that time. Pick a time when it is dark outside and lights come on to make a warm Christmas experience for the family.
