Each fall the Museum is closed during the first full of week of the Olympia School District's new school year.

I have taken my children to the HOCM many times over the years. It is an hour drive, but so worth it on those rainy days.

My 6 children range in age from 2 to 13, and even my tweens enjoy themselves there. The staff is very friendly. We could easily spend hours playing, doing art and investigating.

The only downside is parking. There is upper parking on the left of the building, but the last time I was there, no big vehicles could park in that area. There is more parking a couple blocks away.

Oh, they also do membership grants for low-income families!

My family loves this great Hand's On Museum! Aside from the usual types of hands on fun, they offer art projects/classes three times a week! Definitely worth the cost - be aware, however that the prices have gone up since the time this listing was originally posted. Be sure to check the actual website before visiting to check for current prices.

Nice place, my kids love it. However it is almost always crowded and the prices on this listing have changed. So be sure to check before going. Also parking is a hassle.
